Augmentation insurance treats nanophage colonies and hardware as scheduled property distinct from their human host. A Hartford specialty underwriter holds 1,240 policies, the oldest issued in 2016.[1]
Appraisal
The schedule calls the host the mounting. Median value of a mature augmentation is $310,000, compared with $18,400 assigned to the host for recovery, transport and preparation. A twelve-year colony with a clean maintenance record appraises at almost four times a new seeding because its deposition history cannot be purchased without growing it.
Policy conditions and recovery
Host health determines premiums. Conditions include disclosure, annual examination and acceptance of treatment recommended by the insurer’s medical reviewer. Two claims were settled by physical recovery rather than cash when the augmentation exceeded the settlement offer. Both hosts were alive when their augmentations were removed; both are identified in the files as recovery sites.
