Drain-trap organisms are pale, eyeless, forearm-length bodies emerging from household sink and shower drains. Each matches genetic material from the family at the address where it was recovered.[1]
Assembly
Loose maintenance colonies use shed hair, skin, nails and blood accumulated in traps as feedstock and read the most abundant genetic template. The record attributes their lack of eyes to the limited structural information available in the trap.
Spread
Initial reports came from four addresses in March. The count later exceeded six hundred across seven municipal districts supplied by one treatment plant. Repeat incidents at the same homes produce larger, more completely assembled organisms as the colonies receive further material.
