Cable Beach is a remote experimental installation operated by Dr. Cable for the study of non-biological nanophage systems. Its resident organisms are conscious structures made from cables, tubes and mechanical components.[1, 2]
Installation
Buried cable networks extend through the surrounding terrain and into the waterline. They distribute power, data and experimental signals. The site also functions as a relay within the Nanophage network, a high-bandwidth telecommunications system used by Nanophage Research and classified agencies.
Resident systems
The organisms contain no organic biological material. Embedded nanophages handle movement, coordination and repair. A continuously distributed green fluid provides sustenance and structural maintenance through reservoirs and tubes.
Reciprocal research
Dr. Cable has augmented his brain to eliminate ordinary sleep and works at the installation continuously. He permits the organisms to experiment on his body. The purpose and long-term effects of these reciprocal modifications are incompletely documented.
Acoustic activity
Several organisms emit tones with harmonic relationships. Dr. Cable has documented structured musical patterns and the emergence of bodies resembling musical instruments. The long-term objective of the systems and their coordination remains unresolved.
