The compact-disc expiry advisory is a Nanophage Research notice predicting simultaneous read failure and emission from pressed discs at midnight on September 1st. It treats accumulated household collections as a greater exposure than individual discs.[1]
Assay record
Samples from eleven pressing plants on four continents returned aluminium with a few parts per million of an unspecified, non-natural material absent from the manufacturing specification. The notice does not identify the material or quantify an emission spectrum.
Retrospective labels
Sealed warehouse stock bears expiry labels carrying the same date despite the plants having no record of applying them. The earliest located labelled stock was sealed in 1997. The notice calls for residential removal and separation of discs before the stated date. The inspected post is an advisory; it does not document a later measurement confirming the predicted simultaneous event.
