The Denver missing-cat posters are a set of sixty-one notices distributed across nine neighbourhoods. They describe the same animal under thirty-one names, including fourteen uses of Toby, while issuing different contact numbers to individual readers.[1]
Numbering
The earliest notices, dated March 14th without a stated year, offered $200 and ordinary ten-digit telephone numbers that reached disconnected lines. Later numbers expanded to nineteen digits, beyond telephone exchange limits. Rewards rose through $18,000 to a thirty-four-digit figure described as serving a purpose other than a price.
Each tear-off tab bears a distinct number. The retained count is 640 issued numbers, with no repetitions across the sixty-one posters.
Replenishment
After tabs are taken, new ones appear on the same poles, usually within forty hours of depletion. No replenisher has been observed.
Garage reports
Residents on four streets report the same noise inside attached garages between 2 and 4 a.m. Every poster warns against opening a garage. None requests the animal’s return. The record does not identify the animal’s nature or the purpose of the issued numbers.
