Laboratory 1 was a classified biomedical facility in Alaska conducting regenerative medicine trials with parasitic nanophages. The site remains under permanent quarantine following a containment failure and nuclear neutralization.[1, 2, 3]
Research programme
Laboratory work covered skeletal reconstruction, organ regeneration, neural repair and long-term replacement of biological systems. Sealed chambers used environmental conditions to regulate replication and mutation.
Experimental platforms included suspended rings for whole-body restructuring, open surgical interfaces for observing internal changes, and adaptive environments for evaluating viability after augmentation.
Autonomous repair trials
Later trials allowed nanophages to restructure hosts without predetermined anatomical limits. The stated purpose was to observe emergent repair and self-optimization. During one of these trials, replication became unregulated.
Containment and quarantine
The containment failure spread beyond biological substrates into personnel, equipment and the building itself. Evacuation could not be completed. Repeated containment attempts failed, and Nanophage Research authorized a tactical nuclear detonation.
Residual nanophage activity continues to be detected within the quarantine zone. A separate recovery account dates the breach to 2037. No total casualty count is supplied.
The 2037 recovery account locates continuing nanophage activity beneath the permafrost. Permanent quarantine remains in force despite the nuclear detonation.
